«Bootstrapping» is a computer science term denoting the special method whereby a computer can start itself up when it is first turned on. The term alludes to the joke phrase «to lift oneself up by one's bootstraps», which provides a very apt image to describe the seemingly paradoxical functioning of the self-altering programs that set electronic digital computers initially into motion.

Отсюда их глагол «boot» в смысле загружать компьютер. Веселые они все-таки люди, англоговоруны.
