My complaint is not so much about the invention of public shaming as about the regression to it. The word puritanism, which immediately jumps to mind when I consider this topic, is, for me, associated with something both hypocritical, intolerant and oppressive — and unenlightened and obsolete. The literary and cultural tradition, I thought, starting from the age of romanticism or maybe sentimentalism, rebelled against the conformist and ossified groupthink. I am not especially interested in gay rights, or trans rights, or disabled people's rights, or national/religious minorities' rights; but surely, I thought, as the society grows more tolerant (as I thought it was) to the oddities of strangers, it would be able to accommodate the unconventional elements from other nooks and crannies of life as well.

An interesting conversation on HackerNews about Wordpress prompted by the whitehouse.gov web site.

I am both fascinated and horrified by Wordpress. Fascinated, because it has survived this long, so it must have done something right. Horrified, because of its weirdness and messiness and orientation towards end users, who want to solve problems by installing plugins and themes via the GUI, rather than towards developers, who treasure sanity, and code tidiness, and security, and robust easily recreatable workflows.

Not sure what this is about (tweet deleted, with expressions of regret), but, from the outside, the hypersocialisation and the limelight of Twitter are hardly psychologically healthy. Not for James, who is engaging on Twitter like crazy, not for Helen, not for anyone:

There sure must be a lot to say in favor of introverted cloistered lifestyle.

Mildly interesting: a short video by the BBC entitled Identity. Intended as a teaching material for kids 9-12 years old (so, in the Russian system, that would be like 3-6 grade?). Focused exclusively on sex and gender, with a sprinkle of stereotypes. Has been around since at least 2019, but from time to time receives extra scrutiny and attention from social media and the press:
