The Sunday Times describes a pushback of some French intellectuals against the Swedish celebrity. I guess the irony is that they have been outlefted by the left. Sadly, the article lumps together disgraceful ad hominems with squeamishness at the herd mentality of the crowds or at the vague and puerile discourse. Sadly too, it seems to ascribe their reaction to the basic human jealousy.

I have heard several times on the BBC the phrase "role model" applied to Boris Johnson (the implication being that he is a poor role model). An example is the first question on BBC’s Any Questions (at about 1 min 50 sec): "What kind of role model is our Prime Minister setting for young people?"

Really though? Really? Do young people turn to politicians in search for a role model? And if they do, don’t they decide for themselves whom they like and might want to imitate?
