“A recent Yougov poll on islamophobia in the Conservative party shows an astounding level of racism. Almost 50% polled would not want to see a muslim prime minister. Only 8% would be proud if there was one. 67% believe racist myths about muslim communities, and yet 8 out of 10 don"t think this is a problem”.

How is it that they manage to use two words, with two distinct meanings — racism and islamophobia, — interchangeably? How does a poll on islamophobia show an astounding level of racism? Why should anyone be proud (proud, for pete's sake!) that their top politician is a muslim (or a christian, for that matter, or a man, or a woman, or straight, or gay)? What’s there to be proud about? And what ever happened to good old secularism?
