О лингвистической родине графа Дракулы

К праславянской лексике относится слово qpyrь [где q - носовое о], упырь. Западноевропейское слово "вампир" заимствовано из славянского (полабского или древнепольского) языка, где к начальному носовому гласному добавлен протетический v-.

Оксфордский словарь английского языка подтверждает:

Vampire... vampir, a word of Slavonic origin, occurring in the same form in Russ., Pol., Czech, Serb., and Bulg., with such variants as Bulg. vapir, vepir, <...> Russ. upir, upyr....
