Stephen Kings’s blunder. From Thinner (1984):

And no, the lovely girl is not a walking dead with uniformly white eyes, being regarded appreciatively by another of her kind. No, she is supposed to be a seductive gypsy. King is simply confusing here corneas with scleras.
