It suddenly dawned on me that, along with the cosmetic changes to the search results page that Google has rolled out, they have also removed from it the number of hits — that silly number that used to be religiously referred to a lot, but didn’t really mean much.

P.S.: Hmm, no, the number of hits is still there. Or perhaps it wasn't there and now is back? I should have taken a screenshot. Got overexcited there for a second.
