Some online publications, when caught between two opposite imperatives: to attract more readers by making their articles discoverable through search engines — and at the same time to monetize their audience by hiding the articles behind a paywall — take a very naive approach of serving the whole text of the article, and then hiding most of it using client-side javascript. I do hope they won’t recognize the error of their ways for many more years.
