Today I’ve learnt of a case of Bruce Gilley, a political scientist who submitted an article The Case for Colonialism to Third World Quarterly in 2017. Despite a scandal that followed, the article is still accessible, and is interesting, and I was astonished to learn that it is actually thinkable these days to publicly speak in favor of colonialism, especially from the academic podium. The only hushed murmurings that things have gotten much worse after this or that country acquired its independence that I’ve encountered were in occasional blog posts or private conversations:
