After a long while, a wonderful suggestion by Youtube: the recording of a lecture on academic writing, read by a brilliant man with a very practical and cynical view on the subject. I think he has absorbed some postmodernist ideas (at least that's the taste I get from his talking about academe in terms of community, communication and semantic codes rather than in terms of subject matter, and he also has a passage from Lyotard in his handouts), but at the same time he has a remarkable clarity of thought. I wish there were more recordings of his lectures available:
