An article from RT points out that NY Times’ cartoons of Trump and Putin as gay lovers are exploiting the repressed public stereotype that a gay relationship is something shameful and demeaning. And the reason the usually easily triggered left are not crying foul is because the target of the cartoon is aligned with their perception of the enemy.

I will not comment on the analysis; I am sure it can be countered by numerous examples of cartoons depicting heterosexual relationships between politicians. It’s just that this article reminded me of an outrage in social media when some pranksters projected an image of a banana onto the US embassy in Russia. It was then presented as a blatant manifestation of systemic Russian racism. Well, if those bananas were racist, then perhaps these cartoons are homophobic.
